Issue #47 — Current Verdict

Most "Compare" Sites Sell Leads.
We Publish Evidence.

CompareChore operates as an editorial bureau. Every dossier we release undergoes a structured investigation process — pricing audits, contract reviews, client outcome tracking — before a single comparison reaches you.

VERIFIED INDEPENDENT

"We cancelled two contracts after reading the CompareChore cleaning-services dossier. Saved roughly €3,200 annually." — T. Brennan, property manager, Galway

"The pest-control matrix alone justified the subscription." — D. Okafor, facilities coordinator

Why We Stopped Ranking Providers by Stars

Star ratings flatten nuance. A landscaper rated 4.6 might excel at garden design yet routinely miss scheduled maintenance windows. A cleaning company at 3.9 might have poor onboarding but industry-leading retention after the first month.

Starting from Issue 31, CompareChore replaced aggregate star ratings with axis-specific verdicts. Each provider receives a narrative assessment across our six evaluation axes. Readers tell us this shift alone changed how they shortlist vendors.

"The axis verdicts made me realise I was optimising for the wrong thing." — K. Molloy, homeowner, Cork

Decision Route

How a Dossier Reaches You

This is not a review aggregator. Each dossier follows a deliberate investigative route before publication.

01

Scope Definition

We define the service category, geographic scope, and evaluation criteria before contacting any provider.

02

Blind Engagement

Our analysts engage each provider as ordinary customers. No disclosure of editorial intent. Real quotes, real scheduling, real service delivery.

03

Contract Audit

Every contract, quote, and terms document is reviewed by our compliance desk for fairness, clarity, and hidden obligations.

04

Dossier Assembly

Findings are compiled into a structured dossier with axis-specific verdicts, pricing breakdowns, and a final editorial recommendation.

Field Reports

Condensed excerpts from recent dossier investigations.

The Deep-Clean Pricing Illusion

Three of seven providers advertised "from €89" deep cleans. Actual invoiced amounts ranged from €142 to €211 after mandatory add-ons. Only one provider's quote matched the final bill within 5%.

PLUMBING

Emergency Call-Out: Who Actually Arrives?

We placed 18 emergency calls across six plumbing services on a Saturday afternoon. Two never answered. One dispatched an uninsured subcontractor. Median arrival time: 2 hours 40 minutes — not the "under 60 minutes" promised on any website.

GARDEN

Seasonal Contracts: Value or Trap?

Annual garden maintenance contracts averaged €1,640. Pay-as-you-go equivalents for the same scope came to €1,280–€1,490. However, contract clients reported significantly fewer missed visits.

Verdict: Contracts suit absentee property owners. Everyone else saves on pay-as-you-go.

"We manage 14 rental properties. The cleaning dossier helped us consolidate from four vendors to two, cutting admin overhead by roughly 30% while improving tenant satisfaction scores."

M. Adebayo · Letting agent, Dublin

"I used the pest control comparison to negotiate a better contract. The provider didn't know I had their competitor's actual pricing — they matched it within a day."

Frequently Raised Questions

Do providers pay to be included in a dossier?
No. Inclusion is determined by market presence and reader demand. We do not accept payment for coverage, placement, or favourable verdicts. Our revenue comes from dossier subscriptions and commissioned comparison reports.
How often are dossiers updated?
Active dossiers are refreshed quarterly. If a provider changes pricing, terms, or ownership between cycles, we issue an interim note to subscribers. Archived dossiers remain accessible but are clearly dated.
Can I request a comparison for a category not yet covered?
Yes. Use the dossier request form below. If sufficient reader interest exists, we'll add the category to our editorial calendar. Commissioned private comparisons are also available for business clients.
What geographic areas do you cover?
Current dossiers focus on Ireland, with selective coverage of Northern Ireland cross-border services. We're expanding into additional European markets in late 2026.
Are your analysts qualified?
Our editorial team includes former consumer-rights advocates, contract lawyers, and industry practitioners. Every analyst signs a conflict-of-interest disclosure before beginning an investigation.
